2013 P-R-O Convention All Star: Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader Melissa
One of the more enjoyable aspects of the P-R-O Convention is the bright eyed enthusiasm of the rookies and first year attendees. Their excitement is palpable. Everything is new to them and they are a breath of fresh air. I got a chance to chat with a couple of bubbly blonde rookie Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders. They made me remember the sheer joy of my youth and I was re-energized to shoot them…and that was a good thing because I was exhausted, suffering from a mere three hours of sleep.
In today’s All Star edition, we feature one of the blonde rookie Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders…2013 P-R-O Convention All Star Melissa.
Skol, baby!
2013 Vikings Cheerleader Calendar Unveiled
After weeks of fan voting here on vikings.com, the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders are proud to unveil the cover of their 2013 Swimsuit Calendar that you can see below. Fans can purchase the calendar online here.
This year’s covergirl is Kristy from Vadnais Heights who is entering her second year as a MVC.
The Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders have been doing calendars since 1995, and specifically swimsuit calendars since 2001.
2013 P-R-O Convention All Star: Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader Pam
I think I mentioned previously that the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders looked very impressive in their purple uniforms. They stand out in a sea of cheerleaders not only because their uniforms are distinctive, but because their cheerleaders are noteworthy. And while I was photographing the two bubbly blonde rookie cheerleaders, I could not help be see out of the corner of my viewfinder that one MVC veteran was assisting the rookies in posing. I figured that if this vet was so illustrative of the proper posing technique, that I should probably turn my attention to her. And I was right. That veteran Minnesota Viking Cheerleader was Pam and she is a 2013 P-R-O Convention All Star.

2013 P-R-O Convention All Star: Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader Rachel
Since I have been coming to P-R-O, I have been impressed with the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders. Great looking girls. Great looking uniforms. Vivacious performers. This year, I met a couple of rookie Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders who were excited to be on the squad and very excited to be at P-R-O representing the Purple People Eaters (am I dating myself?). So in this edition of P-R-O Convention All Stars, we turn our attention to another bubbly blonde MVC rookie, Rachel…who even as a first year cheerleader, made a lasting impression.
Local Girl Enjoying Time As Vikings Cheerleader
KEYC – Mankato News, Weather, Sports -
By Ashley Goettl

The Minnesota Vikings were back at Training Camp again today, but today a familiar face to the area was on hand as a member of the Vikings cheerleading squad.
She’s a North Mankato native who’s been on the team for five years.
Being a professional dancer is something many girls dream of when they begin their careers at places like Dance Express in Mankato.
But for Kaylee, that dream became a reality.
As a member of the Vikings Cheerleader team, she’s on the sidelines leading the squad as a captain.
And the Mankato West and Gustavus graduate is thrilled to be back home for Training Camp.
Kaylee says, “It’s so exciting to come back to Mankato for Training Camp and I always tell the other cheerleaders that we get to go to my home. It’s been absolutely unbelievable, the whole Vikings experience. I tried out my first year, completely on a whim’ I didn’t really tell anybody that I was trying out and I was so lucky to make it my first time and I never, ever thought I’d be doing it five years later.”
But it doesn’t come as a surprise to Kaylee’s former dance instructor at Dance Express Mitzi Roberts.
Roberts says, “Kaylee was always talented, ever since she was a tiny little girl and she started classes here and she showed a lot of talent at an early age.”
Now, seeing the woman she’s become brings a sense of pride to Roberts, who has been teaching dance for nearly 30 years.
Roberts says, “I get a little choked up when I watch her out there. She is such, you know, it’s every little girl’s dream to do that someday. To see her on the field, I’ve gone to watch her a couple of times and it is just so rewarding as a teacher to watch her out there.”
But now, Kaylee hopes she can pass on what she’s learned to help girls reach their dreams.
Kaylee says, “Girls don’t really realize some of the opportunities that they have to further their dance career. It’s more than just dance. It’s a way to make new friends, a way to get out in the community and of course, be a part of football.”
Be a part of football from her home of North Mankato to her home in the dome.
In case you’re wondering, it’s Vikings team policy to identify their cheerleaders by first name only.

MVC Alum – on the field and in the stands
Retiring from the squad doesn’t mean it’s the end of the game. Once a fan, always a fan, for these Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader alumni! And if there’s a chance to get back on the field for one for more go – heck yeah! (Thanks for the pics, Polly!)
MVC Training Program a huge success for Vikings Cheerleaders
The Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders Training Program is a unique concept in the world of pro cheerleading in general, and NFL cheerleaders in particular. I believe the program began back in 2006 (but don’t hold me to that date) and has grown in success (and size!) since then.
Every year at tryouts, candidates are asked to indicate on their application whether they’d like to be considered for the program. During the the audition process, MVC staff keeps an eye out for young ladies who have all the raw materials to make a successful MVC, but aren’t quite there yet in terms of making the team. When the auditions are over, the staff reviews the list of those who are interested in the program but didn’t make the team. It doesn’t matter how far they made it during the audition process. (In fact, they didn’t even have to audition at all. You can audition for the training program by submitting a video and resume.) Then they offer Training Program invites to the 30+ individuals with the most potential.
The program itself is a huge commitment, lasting for an entire year. During that time, the members meet weekly for workshops, fitness training, and rehearsals. They are coached on poise, public speaking, dance technique, dance styles, and much more. And of course they also have opportunities to perform at a few MVC events and at a Vikings game. I’m sure it is also a major bonding experience for all the ladies involved.
The program’s directors, Erin Newburg and Beth Hoffman are MVC alumni. Both were on the team for five years and served as captains for several years, so they know of what they speak. Throughout the year, Erin and Beth provide guidance on what each individual candidate needs to work on to improve her chances of making the team at the next audition.
It’s a lot of work, but it’s a win-win for everyone involved. The ladies who complete the program have an extra advantage at audition time. Can you imagine going into an audition, knowing exactly what the judges are looking for from you specifically? They know what’s expected, they’re prepared, and they have a supportive group with them through the entire audition process. Even those who choose not to audition, or do audition and don’t make the team have benefited from making friends and learning new things – even if what they’ve learned is that the level of time and energy required is more than they expected or are able to commit to.
The MVC staff, on the other hand, have a group of candidates who have already proven their mettle. For most NFL dance teams, the audition process is less than a week. It’s enough time to check a few references, and to see if a particular individual has the talent, the dance ability, the right look, and a pleasant personality. But it isn’t enough time to tell if she has the commitment, the responsibility, and common sense to do the job well – and for a whole year. Participating the the TP gives the judges a lot of assurance in that area.
Needless to say the MVC Training Program is a big success. Not every member of the TP auditions and/or makes the team, but plenty do. The current squad of 35 includes 14 training program alumni: Alissa, Danielle, Emily, Jeannie, Karen, Katie, Kayla W., Kelsey, Michelle, Molly, Rachel, Rhea, Starla, and Tracy. Karen is a team captain this year. A few, like Kelsey, Starla, and Rachel, participated in the training program for more than one year before joining the MVC squad. Now that is dedication.
Let’s hear it for the rookies who graduated from the Training Program to the MVC squad this year!

Meet ShopNBC Host Tami Lynn
Tami Lynn’s road to ShopNBC began more than 10 years ago when she was up during the night with her first baby. She would watch ShopNBC and say, “Someday, I’m going to be that lady!” In 2011, that someday became a reality. Tami loves presenting—and shopping—for every product category.
Before hosting, Tami was a dancer and coach with the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders. She was Mrs. Minnesota America 2003 and Mrs. Minnesota International 2009. A true sports enthusiast with tremendous energy, Tami remains involved with the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders, in addition to her on-air hosting and being a mother of four.
“I love that I can be someone’s shopping best friend, and I am honored to work with such amazing people—it’s truly a dream come true!”
